What’s in a name? Everything! Especially when it comes to Evolution Powersports, located at 2102 9th Ave. SW,
in Watertown.

“We’re constantly evolving and staying with the times so we can offer our customers the best of everything in powersports,” said Marketing Manager Travis Cantwell.

Evolution Powersports, which is owned by Steve Dutenhouffer and Lonnie Knutson, opened its doors two years ago. But the store represents a greater history – a merging of Sheehan Cycle and Dakota Outdoors, two long-established powersports and outdoor destination stores in Watertown. When the stores merged two years ago, they combined the number of brands they could offer their customers. They also remodeled their facility from the inside out, creating a state-of-the-art showroom.

From work to play, Evolution Powersports specializes in all the new and previously-owned powersports equipment a person would ever need. Naturally, a good portion of the business revolves around agriculture, with side-by-sides and ATVS being top sellers. Additionally, the store carries motorcycles, watercraft, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, and scooters.

“We carry a very large collection of motorcycles, and we have a lot of motorcycle enthusiasts that work here,” said Cantwell. “We’re hands-down Northeast South Dakota’s largest PWC dealer. We sell three different brands of personal watercraft, so you have a lot of choices, both used and new.”
Which brands can customers expect to find at Evolution Powersports? Those include Honda, Yamaha, Can-Am, Kawasaki, CFMoto, Sea-Doo, Timbersled, Polaris, Star Motorcycles and more. Customers will also find a variety of parts, accessories, and apparel at the store. Internet-savvy folks can shop online at www.evolutionpowersports.com, as the store ships within the U.S.

Perhaps the greatest benefit of coming to the Watertown showroom is being greeted by Evolution Powersports’ team of experienced employees. There are 18 people on staff, including managers; sales and financing representatives; and certified repair technicians. The company hopes to be seen as a one-stop powersports superstore, from products to repair. The motto at Evolution Powersports is “We service what we sell.” With many years of combined experience, the staff definitely takes care of their customers.

“We’re fun, friendly, energetic and passionate about what we do,” said Cantwell, who is a self-proclaimed powersports enthusiast. “For us, this is a lifestyle. A lot of us ride ATVs and jet skis for fun. Living this lifestyle makes our jobs easier.”

Looking toward the future, Evolution Powersports plans to keep evolving, just as their name suggests. They will strive to stay ahead of the game and the competition – with continued sales, staff and technician trainings, as well as keeping the latest and greatest products on the sales floor. Through the evolution, the team vows to always stay true to their number one priority – the customer.
